Elizabeth is a progressive sort of person. For example, at a time when women were not encouraged to read or speak their minds, she did both, with passion. She is witty and loves to have a good time just as much as she enjoys a long walk in solitude or a good book. Pride and Prejudice also portrays Elizabeth as quite protective of those she cares about, and though she strives for peace with others, when problems arise, she courageously rises to the occasion to deal with contention head-on.
