]]><![CDATA[My Gluten Free Diet is NOT a Trend- a documentary]]>Mon, 12 Aug 2024 02:54:13 GMThttps://www.authorpaulaljones.com/paulas-blog/my-gluten-free-diet-is-not-a-trend-a-documentaryLast summer, I was honored to collaborate with a slew of inspiring individuals from south Louisiana on a documentary about celiac disease. 

Photographers Britt Smith of NOLA and Liza Priestley of Baton Rouge helped me direct a short about the autoimmune disorder by capturing interviews with several diagnosed people from Louisiana's capital area. 

The documentary is called My Gluten Free Diet is NOT a Trend and I'm hoping (fingers crossed!) to finish editing it by late October of this year. Once it's completed, it will be available to watch for free on YouTube. My goal in creating this film is to raise awareness about celiac disease. 

Honestly, I wish I had professional editing equipment to do the topic justice, but for now all I have access to are free and/or very inexpensive tools such as Microsoft Movie Maker (a.k.a "Photo Legacy") and Canva. 

One day in the future, I'll be able to afford Premiere Pro, but for now I'm using what's available and I'm grateful for it.

TITLE: Bad Batch: Book One of "A Fall Springs Mystery" series

​RATING: PG (no foul language or sexual references but contains intense subjects related to solving crimes)

MAJOR THEMES: Foster care, adoption, teen romance, fitting in

​SYNOPSIS: Lila Wisher is a curious 15-year-old who wants to be a detective one day. But “one day” feels like it's a million years away.
Life isn’t easy for Lila. She’s been moved from home to home in Louisiana's foster care system. All at once, she finds herself adjusting to a brand-new life in the small town of Fall Springs. 
Her foster parents are weird and she’s the new girl at a high school where she simply doesn’t fit in.

​But when a murder takes place at her school, the vibe in Fall Springs changes. Lila realizes that “one day” has happened much sooner than expected. So, she makes it her business to find out who the Fall Springs murderer is and bring them to justice.

Fifteen-year-old Lila Wisher is a product of Louisiana's foster care system. In other words, life has been hard for her. 

We meet her as she's taken out of a less than stellar foster home and moved to a very small town where she meets people who are down-to-earth, friendly, and trustworthy. But even in towns where southern hospitality reigns supreme, crime happens. 

When a faculty member at her new high school is murdered on campus, Lila does what she was made to do, she investigates. Throughout the pages of "Bad Batch," readers will watch Lila make friends, enemies, and work to solve a case that's turned her new town upside-down.

"Bad Batch" is the first book in A Fall Springs Mystery series.

Hopefully, it will be published later this year... hopefully.
